A basic, aggressive form of self-defense that can be learned in a very short amount of time & executed by anyone.

The Last Resort Women’s Self-Defense System

This is not a Karate class. We use all natural body motions. The Last Resort System is designed for use when you fear for your life, and your instinct of survival has taken over.

The targets we strike are very easily damaged, even at a low rate of speed and power. We get the additional benefit of adrenaline. We can’t teach you how to react, that’s why we rely on our instinct of survival.

This system focuses on ‘priority’ learning. It deals with the immediacy of the attack. Knowing what to look for allows us to see the opportunity when it presents itself. Because we deal with our instincts of survival, we don’t have to think: “When’s the right time? ”; or “Has the situation called for this type of defense? ”.

60 Years of Experience

The Last Resort Self-Defense System was created by Greg Goldsholl and Sean Goldsholl. Together with Mike Adrid, they have taught thousands of women the techniques they need to survive an attack.

GREG GOLDSHOLL

San Dan (3rd Degree Black Belt) / Instructor – Isshin-Ryu Karate | Black Belt / Instructor – American Karate
Greg Goldsholl is a USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee and holds 2 Black Belts. Greg brings over 35 years of Martial arts experience and is committed to helping as many people as possible learn how to protect themselves.

SEAN GOLDSHOLL

Ni Dan (2nd Degree Black Belt) – Isshin-Ryu Karate | Black Belt / Instructor – American Karate
Sean’s training began under the instruction of his brother Greg at age 12. Over the years, Sean has achieved the rank of Black Belt in 2 different styles of Karate, and served as Self-Defense Commissioner for Northrop B-2 Division for 4 years. Sean too shares his brother’s passion for teaching others how to adequately defend themselves without investing years of training.

MIKE ADRID

Sho-Dan (1st degree black belt Isshin-Ryu) | Black Belt / Instructor
Mike started his Martial Arts journey early in 1971 as a member of the Tae Kwon Do, Korean Tang Soo Do Association but after six months
postponed my training to join the Los Angeles County Marshal’s Department. In 1974, I started attending instruction of Sensei Robert Koga. The Koga Method is specifically designed for Public Safety Personnel dealing with Arrest Control, Self Defense and Baton Techniques. The Method’s background is based on traditional Japanese martial arts. I have continued to attend Sensei Koga’s classes, becoming a Senior Instructor. As the Marshal’s Department training Sergeant, I was responsible for training all deputy personnel regarding Arrest Control and Baton for approximately 3 years. In 1977, I became a part-time instructor at Rio Hondo Police Academy and have continued to instruct at the Academy for the past 31 years. Over that time period, I have taught approximately 15,000 deputies and officers, from over 40 public service and police agencies these techniques. The Marshal’s Department merged with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 1994, and as a Lieutenant I continued to instruct personnel Arrest and Control techniques. Over the years I have practiced other forms of martial arts to enhance my knowledge. I have studied Aikido under Shidan Pablo Vasquez, Jiu-Jitsu under Rorion Gracie (Gracie Jiu-Jitsu), Justin Ellison (Walt Bayless Combat Jiu-Jitsu) and Roy Harris (Roy Harris International). I received my 1st Degree Black Belt in Isshin Ryu Karate from Sensei Greg Goldsholl. Mike is an instructor for The Last Resort, a self-defense system for women; G.R.A.P.L.E Instructor, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu; Apprentice Level Grappling Instructor, Roy Harris International; a part-time instructor at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, for Public Safety officers and nursing staff and owner of On The Mat, LLC, teaching private lessons the last 10 years.

Why it works

Most people don’t have the time to invest in learning intricate moves, and there’s no reason for them. Basic, simple techniques combined with basic concepts make this system easy to learn and remember.

The weapons we give you are always with you, and can’t be taken away. This isn’t designed to save your purse. — It was designed to protect you (your person) against an attack. The LRS does not require any special physical abilities, and everyday clothing may be worn.

It isn’t necessary for a self-defense system to be complicated to be effective. It needs to be simple. Things will be pointed out to you, that will become part of your common sense. We focus on what we call the center of the attack—when he’s in position (close enough) to complete his attack. All other things are outside of the attack; therefore, we don’t focus our time learning to avoid the attack. Rather, we spend our time learning to defend against the attack.

When you’re scared (for your life) and your instinct of survival has taken over, if you know what to do, you’ll do it. This isn’t a cure all, nothing is. It does, however, give us a plan that will work (and having a plan will make the difference). These techniques don’t have to be done perfectly to be effective.
